Sri Lankan cricketer Ashen Bandara was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting his neighbor after a disagreement about parking. He was later released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on March 12.
Police in Sri Lanka reported that the incident took place in Kolamunna, Piliyandala, where Bandara lives. The dispute began when a vehicle was allegedly parked in a way that blocked the road. Bandara is accused of entering his neighbor’s property and physically assaulting him.
According to police, a neighbor complained about Bandara causing trouble and trespassing. The verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Bandara was arrested on suspicion of assault on Saturday night and subsequently granted bail.
Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, stated that the organization needs more details about the incident before deciding on any action. De Silva mentioned that while Bandara does not have a central contract with Sri Lanka Cricket, he is contracted with Police SC in the National Super League and could face consequences for damaging the reputation of SLC.
De Silva added that Sri Lanka Cricket will review Bandara’s contract and the details of the incident. If it is determined that Bandara has brought the organization into disrepute, further action may be taken, potentially including an internal inquiry.
Bandara, 26, is a middle-order batsman known for his fielding abilities. He has played in six ODIs and six T20Is for Sri Lanka. His last international appearance for Sri Lanka was in October 2023 at the Asian Games.
