Azmatullah Omarzai has surpassed his Afghanistan teammate Mohammad Nabi to become the top-ranked all-rounder in ODIs following an outstanding Champions Trophy 2025.

Despite Afghanistan’s inability to advance to the tournament’s semi-finals, Omarzai’s performance was exceptional. He claimed seven wickets in three matches, notably including a match-winning 5 for 58 against England. He also contributed 126 runs with the bat, averaging 42.00 with a strike rate of 104.13, often stabilizing Afghanistan’s lower middle order during critical moments.

Omarzai has climbed two positions in the rankings and now leads Nabi by four points. He has also improved his position in the ODI batting rankings, moving up 12 places to 24th.

There were shifts in rankings for India as well, with Virat Kohli advancing one spot to fourth after his Player of the Match performance in the semi-final against Australia, where he scored 84 in a 265-run chase. Previously, he had scored an unbeaten 100 against Pakistan in a group stage match, also securing a win for his team.

Shubman Gill continues to hold the top position in batting rankings, followed by Babar Azam. Heinrich Klaasen is ranked third, while Rohit Sharma has dropped two places to fifth. Steven Smith, who recently retired from ODI cricket, finished his ODI career ranked 16th.

A significant climber in the batting rankings is Afghanistan’s opener Ibrahim Zadran. He jumped 13 positions to reach tenth place after his score of 177 against England.

In bowling, New Zealand’s fast bowler Matt Henry has risen three places to third, now behind Maheesh Theekshana and Keshav Maharaj. Mohammed Shami, returning after an injury, has moved up three spots to 11th. He is currently joint-leading wicket-taker in the Champions Trophy with Henry, both having taken eight wickets (prior to the NZ vs SA semi-final).
