Bangladesh is set to host Zimbabwe for a two-match Test series starting on April 20, 2025. Originally planned for April 2024, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had requested Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) to play a five-game T20 International series instead at that time.
The Zimbabwe team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on April 15. Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will be the venue for the first Test. Subsequently, the second Test will be held at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, commencing on April 28. It’s important to note that this series is not part of the ICC World Test Championship, as Zimbabwe is not a participant in the championship.
Zimbabwe’s recent Test performance has been challenging, with eight losses and two draws in their last ten matches. In 2025, they played two single-Test games against Afghanistan and Ireland in Bulawayo, losing both. Their last Test victory dates back to March 2021 against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.
In contrast, Bangladesh has found Test success primarily in overseas conditions recently. They achieved a 2-0 victory in Pakistan and tied a series 1-1 in the West Indies. However, their last home Test win was in November 2023 against New Zealand in Sylhet. In 2024, they faced home series losses of 2-0 against both Sri Lanka and South Africa.
The last Test match hosted by Bangladesh against Zimbabwe was in February 2020, where Bangladesh won by an innings and 106 runs. Their most recent Test encounter was in July 2021, with Bangladesh securing a 220-run victory in Harare.
Historically, Bangladesh holds a slight advantage in Test matches against Zimbabwe, with 8 wins compared to Zimbabwe’s 7 in 18 games played. Zimbabwe’s last Test win against Bangladesh was in 2018.
