Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. This marks his second visit in a short period, as he evaluates his fitness for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) and seeks clearance to play. His availability for the tournament will be decided based on this assessment.
During his previous visit, Bumrah reportedly experienced some discomfort while bowling. Following observation, NCA staff recommended specific exercises and advised a follow-up visit. However, this time, there is increased optimism regarding his progress and recovery.
If Bumrah bowls comfortably without pain, he could receive clearance to participate in the IPL. Nevertheless, current expectations suggest he may need at least another week to regain match fitness, likely causing him to miss Mumbai Indians’ first two games.
Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene expressed a hopeful outlook regarding Bumrah’s condition, stating that Bumrah has started his recovery progress and the team is awaiting feedback. He mentioned that things are progressing well day-by-day and hopes Bumrah can rejoin the team soon.
Jayawardene acknowledged the challenge of playing without Bumrah, recognizing him as a world-class bowler and a valuable player for Mumbai Indians over the years.
In related news, Sanju Samson is also scheduled to visit the NCA next month for clearance. He has received partial clearance to bat but is not yet cleared for wicket-keeping duties after a finger surgery. Consequently, Rajasthan Royals have appointed Riyan Parag as captain for the initial matches, planning to utilize Samson primarily as an impact player. Samson will reassess his wicket-keeping clearance with the NCA after these initial games.
