Mumbai Indians have signed all-rounder Corbin Bosch to replace fellow South African Lizaad Williams, who is out of IPL 2025 due to injury.
Bosch, a bowling all-rounder, is set to make his IPL debut. He previously was a reserve player for Rajasthan Royals. The 30-year-old Bosch is familiar with the Mumbai Indians franchise as he was part of their SA20 winning team, MI Cape Town, earlier this year in February. In the SA20 tournament, he took 11 wickets in seven innings with an economy rate of 8.68. Bosch will join his SA20 teammate Ryan Rickelton at Mumbai Indians. He will be the third seam-bowling all-rounder at MI, after captain Hardik Pandya and Raj Bawa.
He was initially picked as a diamond player by Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2025 in the January draft. However, he will now have to miss that opportunity to play in the IPL. This year onwards, the PSL will be held in April-May, coinciding with the IPL schedule.
Bosch has also participated in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the now defunct Mzansi Super League (MSL). He is a versatile player who can bat up the order, even at No.3 as he did for Barbados Royals in CPL 2022, and can also bowl effectively in death overs.
In his T20 career, Bosch has played 86 matches, taking 59 wickets with an economy rate of 8.38 and scoring 663 runs with a strike rate of 113.33.
This IPL contract with MI adds to Bosch’s recent successes. In the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan in Centurion, Bosch became the first South African player to take a four-wicket haul and score a fifty on his Test debut. His all-round performance helped South Africa secure a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in Lord’s in June.
After winning the SA20, Bosch was also included in South Africa’s Champions Trophy squad as an injury replacement, although he only played in a warm-up match in Karachi.
Williams is the second Mumbai Indians player to be ruled out for the upcoming season due to injury, following Afghanistan’s spinner AM Ghazanfar, who is recovering from a back injury.
