Fresh Pitch Expected for India-Australia Semi-Final in Dubai

Rohit Sharma’s uncertainty about the semi-final pitch was accurate. The India versus Australia Champions Trophy semi-final will be played on a completely new pitch, making it unpredictable for the Indian team.

In Dubai, three matches have already used three different pitches: India against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. However, the pitch for the upcoming Tuesday game will be freshly prepared and unused.

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) manages pitch preparation at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) under ICC supervision. Matthew Sandery, an Australian curator, is in charge of pitches at both DICS and the ICC Academy.

Claims have emerged about India benefiting unfairly by consistently playing in Dubai during the Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma refuted this, stating, “Dubai isn’t our home ground. We don’t often play here; it’s a new experience for us too.”

Rohit Sharma didn’t inspect the pitch on Monday due to the team’s day off. Steve Smith, however, did examine it. He noted the dryness of the square and, after speaking with the groundsman, anticipated a pitch performance influenced by previous usage of similar dry surfaces.

DICS pitches are generally slow and dry, favoring spin bowlers. The semi-final pitch is expected to maintain similar characteristics.
