Harmanpreet Kaur Fined for Dissent in WPL 2025

Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been fined 10 percent of her match earnings. This occurred because she disagreed with the umpire’s decision during a Women’s Premier League game against UP Warriorz at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

The incident took place in the 19th over of the UP Warriorz innings. Umpire Ajitesh Argal told Harmanpreet that only three fielders were allowed outside the fielding circle in the final over due to a slow over rate. Harmanpreet seemed unhappy with this and argued briefly with the umpire. Her teammate Amelia Kerr also joined the discussion.

The WPL stated in a release that Harmanpreet Kaur admitted to a Level 1 offense, specifically Article 2.8, which is about showing disagreement with an umpire’s decision during a game.

For Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is considered final.

Harmanpreet also had a verbal exchange with UP Warriorz player Sophie Ecclestone during the match. Ecclestone walked towards the umpire to explain something, and Harmanpreet responded sharply, seemingly telling Ecclestone to stay out of it.

Umpire N Janani and UP Warriorz captain Deepti Sharma intervened to calm the situation.

UP Warriorz scored a total of 150/9, and Mumbai Indians successfully chased this target in 18.3 overs.
