Harry Brook Opts Out of IPL 2025

England’s talented middle-order batsman, Harry Brook, has announced his withdrawal from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He stated that this decision is due to his commitment to prepare thoroughly for upcoming series with the England national team.

Delhi Capitals had acquired Brook for a significant INR 6.25 Crore in the mega auction held in November. This marks the second consecutive time Brook has pulled out of the IPL. His repeated withdrawal now puts him at risk of being banned from participating in future IPL seasons.

According to a newly implemented IPL rule, players who register for the auction, get selected, and then become unavailable before the season begins may face a ban from participating in the tournament and player auctions for two seasons.

The rule provides exemptions for players who are ruled out due to injuries or medical reasons. However, Brook clarified in a statement on his social media that his decision is based on prioritizing national duties. He mentioned, “This is a crucial period for England cricket, and I am fully dedicated to preparing for the upcoming series. To achieve this, I need time to recharge after a very busy phase in my career.”

He further added, “I understand that not everyone will agree with my decision, and I don’t expect them to. However, I must do what I believe is right, and playing for my country remains my utmost priority and focus.”

Last season, Brook withdrew from the Delhi Capitals’ campaign due to a family bereavement. He has participated in only one IPL season to date, representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023.
