Team India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, conveyed his happiness following the Men in Blue’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament was held in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19th to March 9th. Gambhir spoke to reporters at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi before his flight to Dehradun. He is travelling to attend the wedding of cricketer Rishabh Pant’s sister.
“I am very happy, and the entire nation shares this joy,” Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of Team India, told the media.
India secured their third ICC Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket win over New Zealand in Dubai. A rapid half-century by captain Rohit Sharma, a strong innings from Shreyas Iyer, and effective bowling spells, especially from spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, contributed to India’s all-around success.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Men in Blue, was named Player of the Match for his excellent performance in the final. He scored a brilliant 76 runs off 83 balls, including seven fours and three sixes.
New Zealand’s opening batsman, Rachin Ravindra, was awarded the Golden Bat for scoring the most runs and was also named ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his outstanding performances throughout the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In four matches, Ravindra scored 263 runs at an average of 65.75, with a strike rate of 106.47, including two centuries. He also took three important wickets. In the final, he made a quick 37 runs from 29 balls, providing his team with a good start.
New Zealand’s right-arm fast bowler, Matt Henry, emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the ICC Champions Trophy. Henry took 10 wickets in four matches at an average of 16.70, including a five-wicket haul against India in the group stage.
