The pitch for the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand has been chosen. With the crucial match in Dubai just around the corner, authorities have decided on the specific pitch for Sunday’s game.
Reportedly, ground staff prepared the entire pitch area and designated the central wicket for the final showdown. Interestingly, this is the same pitch that was used for the high-profile group stage match between India and Pakistan earlier in the tournament.
According to reports, a ‘used surface’ is being prepared for the Champions Trophy final.
The Emirates Cricket Board is said to adhere to a ‘two-week rest’ policy for Dubai pitches, especially after hosting the ILT20 tournament before the Champions Trophy. However, for the final between India and New Zealand, they had to opt for a pitch that has already been used.
This particular pitch was last used on February 23rd for the India versus Pakistan match and will now be used again on March 9th for the Champions Trophy final.
An official mentioned that for the Champions Trophy, curators ensured pitches had at least two weeks of rest, even during the ILT20. The pitch used for the India vs Bangladesh game was rested for two weeks prior. A similar approach was taken for subsequent matches.
The official further added that despite the ILT20, ground staff focused on the Champions Trophy. Both the pitch area and outfield were given significant attention, resulting in a lush outfield even after numerous cricket matches.
With temperatures rising in Dubai, spin bowling is expected to play a key role in the final. The chosen pitch has been covered recently, and its first public viewing is expected on Saturday.
