Irfan Pathan Celebrates Afghanistan’s Victory with Viral Dance
Afghanistan’s impressive journey in cricket continued as they secured a victory against England, the 2019 World Cup champions, in a crucial Champions Trophy 2025 match. In a thrilling game, Afghanistan defeated England by eight runs. This marks Afghanistan’s second consecutive 50-over ICC tournament victory against England, following their win in the 2023 World Cup. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan celebrated Afghanistan’s victory by performing his signature dance moves, delighting fans.
Irfan Pathan shared a video on social media of himself dancing to the Bollywood song ‘Afghan Jalebi’. He captioned his Instagram post, “Another ICC win against England from Afghanistan. Well done!”
This celebratory dance has become a recurring tradition. Pathan also performed the same dance in 2023 when Afghanistan defeated England in the World Cup.
On that occasion, Pathan danced with Afghanistan’s star player, Rashid Khan. This time, Rashid Khan playfully commented on Pathan’s post, “Brother, dancing without me? Haha. Thank you brother, always for support and love.”
Pathan’s dance quickly went viral on Instagram, gaining over 600,000 likes within the first 10 hours.
Afghanistan vs England, Champions Trophy 2025: Match Highlights
Both teams needed a win to stay in contention for the semi-finals. Afghanistan’s victory highlights their growing strength in cricket, proving their wins are no longer upsets.
Afghanistan recovered from a shaky start to score 325 runs in 50 overs. Opener Ibrahim Zadran played a remarkable innings of 177 runs off 146 balls, setting the record for the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history.
In response, England struggled to keep up, and despite some resistance, Afghanistan secured wickets at crucial times to win the match. Joe Root scored a brilliant 120 runs, with valuable contributions from Jos Buttler (38), Ben Duckett (38), and Jamie Overton. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai starred with the ball, taking five wickets, including the important wickets of Root, Overton, and Adil Rashid in the final overs.
Afghanistan will face Australia on February 28 in their next crucial Group B match.
