Delhi Capitals have brought on board Kevin Pietersen as a mentor for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
The Delhi franchise has assembled a fresh coaching team, including Hemang Badani as Head Coach, Venugopal Rao as Director of Cricket, Matthew Mott as Assistant Coach, and Munaf Patel as Bowling Coach. The team is yet to announce who will captain the side after releasing Rishabh Pant from the captaincy following the previous season.
Pietersen is not new to the Delhi setup, having captained the team back in 2014 when they were known as the Daredevils. He also led Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2009. However, this marks his first foray into a coaching role in the IPL since he retired from playing in 2016.
Pietersen has a strong connection with the GMR group, the owners of Delhi Capitals. He played a role in facilitating the GMR group’s acquisition of Hampshire County in October 2024.
Delhi Capitals are aiming for their first IPL title, having reached the final only once in the league’s 17 seasons. They are scheduled to start their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24.
