Pakistan’s all-rounder, Khushdil Shah, has been penalized with a 50% match fee deduction and three demerit points for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the first T20 International against New Zealand in Christchurch.
This penalty stems from an incident in the eighth over of Pakistan’s innings. While running between wickets after hitting a shot, Khushdil collided with bowler Zakary Foulkes. Foulkes had turned his back and was unaware of Khushdil’s approach when the collision occurred.
Match officials, including umpires and match referee Jeff Crowe, reviewed the incident. Khushdil accepted the imposed sanctions, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
In the same match, Khushdil was Pakistan’s highest scorer, contributing 32 runs off 30 balls. However, Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled, and the team was dismissed for just 91 runs. New Zealand successfully chased the target in 10.1 overs, taking a 1-0 series lead.
Pakistan is currently touring New Zealand with a revised team strategy, notably excluding experienced players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as they explore a more aggressive style of play.
The team hopes to rebound in the second T20I, which will be held in Dunedin. Following the T20 series, Pakistan and New Zealand are also scheduled to compete in three One Day International matches.
