Lalit Modi, the former head of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has become a citizen of Vanuatu, a nation in the South Pacific. According to his legal team, Modi is taking steps to give up his Indian passport.

Mehmood Abdi, Modi’s lawyer, stated that Modi is following the correct procedures to surrender his Indian passport.

Having resided in the UK for the past 15 years, Modi will continue to live there. A source close to Modi confirmed his ongoing UK residency.

Abdi also emphasized that Indian authorities have never filed any charges or complaints against Lalit Modi in any Indian court, and no charges have been officially brought against him.

The need to surrender his Indian passport is due to the rule that Indian citizens cannot hold passports from two countries.

Lalit Modi is the founder of the IPL. He left India in 2010 after a controversy and his removal from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, amidst accusations of corruption.
