New Zealand batter Lauren Down has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against Sri Lanka due to a back injury. Uncapped Izzy Sharp has been called in as her replacement in the squad.
Down sustained the injury on the morning of the first ODI in Napier. She was initially a replacement for Bella James, who was sidelined with a quadricep strain.
Izzy Sharp, initially selected only for the T20I series, will now join the ODI squad in Nelson. Emma Black will also join the squad as cover for Hannah Rowe, who will miss the final game.
New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer expressed disappointment for Down and wished her a speedy recovery, while highlighting the opportunity for Izzy Sharp.
New Zealand is already without key players Sophie Devine, Molly Penfold, and Hayley Jensen for this series due to injuries.
