Liam Guthrie, a left-arm fast bowler from Queensland, has signed a three-year contract with Northamptonshire.
Guthrie, who is 27 years old, has a UK passport, which allows him to play as a local player for the team.
This signing comes after Northamptonshire appointed Darren Lehmann as their new head coach. Lehmann has previously coached Guthrie in Queensland and Brisbane Heat and describes him as a fast bowler who can swing the ball.
Guthrie expressed his excitement about joining Northamptonshire and playing in the UK, which he said has always been a career goal.
He is also looking forward to working with Darren Lehmann again, acknowledging Lehmann’s significant positive influence on his cricket career.
Guthrie’s first-class debut was in 2018 for Western Australia, but he didn’t get regular playing opportunities there. He debuted in the Big Bash League for Brisbane Heat in 2021 and later secured a state contract with Queensland.
In his first-class career, Guthrie has taken 50 wickets in 18 matches, with an average of 37.82. In List A cricket, he has 27 wickets at an average of 27.62, and in T20s, he has 6 wickets at 34.00.
Lehmann commented that Northamptonshire is thrilled to have Guthrie join them as a local player for the next three years. He highlighted Guthrie’s left-arm swing and genuine pace, along with his excellent attitude and wicket-taking ability, based on their past collaboration.
Lehmann believes Guthrie will integrate well with the team, with whom he is already enjoying working.
