A Bangladesh Cricket Board official confirmed that experienced batsman Mahmudullah has requested not to be considered for a central contract starting March 2025.
While he was initially listed in category B of the proposed central contracts for 2025, Mahmudullah asked the BCB to exclude him from the contract from March onwards. He will still receive his salary for January and February, as he is part of the current contract cycle.
The decision follows discussions after the Champions Trophy regarding the future of senior players like Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim. Rahim recently retired from ODIs, and it is anticipated that Mahmudullah, with 239 ODIs over 18 years, may soon follow suit.
Mahmudullah has reportedly indicated to the board his lack of interest in participating in the 2027 World Cup. His withdrawal from the central contract is seen as a significant step in that direction, suggesting a potential winding down of his international career.
