Experienced Bangladeshi cricketer Mahmudullah has declared his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, March 12th. Mahmudullah shared this announcement across his social media platforms.
This decision follows his earlier request to the cricket board to not consider him for a central contract beyond February 2025. In his retirement message, Mahmudullah expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and fans for their unwavering support. He also extended heartfelt thanks to his parents, in-laws, especially his father-in-law, and his brother Emdad Ullah, who has been a constant mentor and coach since his childhood.
Furthermore, Mahmudullah acknowledged the steadfast support of his wife and children, mentioning his son Raeid’s fondness for seeing him in the Bangladesh jersey. He concluded his message with a philosophical note about endings and moving forward, wishing the Bangladesh team and cricket future success.
Speculation about Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim’s positions in the national team arose after the Champions Trophy. While Rahim recently retired from ODIs, Mahmudullah has now followed suit.
The 39-year-old stands out as the only Bangladeshi player to have scored three centuries in ODI World Cups, with two in the 2015 edition and one in 2023. Throughout his career, Mahmudullah represented Bangladesh in 239 ODIs, 50 Tests, and 141 T20 Internationals.
