Bangladesh`s senior assistant coach, Mohammad Salahuddin, on Sunday expressed confidence in Litton Das`s potential for long-term captaincy, even though the opener has faced recent struggles with his form. Litton has been appointed as Bangladesh`s T20I captain until the next T20 World Cup, filling the position left vacant by Najmul Hossain Shanto, who stepped down to manage his workload across different formats.

Speaking to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday, Salahuddin commented, “You might not like it or feel upset seeing certain individuals in the captain`s role, but leading the Bangladesh team is a truly difficult job, unlike how easy it might appear from the outside. Because of this, we all need to lend our support.”
He emphasized Litton`s strategic awareness and natural leadership qualities. “Litton possesses the necessary attributes to lead the side effectively, such as inspiring the team and making intelligent strategic decisions, which he is capable of,” Salahuddin added.
Salahuddin stated that Litton requires the freedom to lead according to his own vision and sufficient time to grow into the leadership role. He remarked, “You cannot instantly create a leader; it is an inherent quality… Those who genuinely believe that captaining the Bangladesh team is straightforward are simply deluding themselves.”
“A major challenge is our collective failure to perform cohesively as a team… And as a nation, we are highly emotional… Therefore, if you do not allow a captain to execute his plans as he sees fit, then there was no valid reason to appoint him as captain in the first place?”
Addressing concerns about Litton`s perceived reservedness, Salahuddin drew a comparison with the renowned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. “We tend to view Litton somewhat differently – possibly because he does not interact extensively with you (the media)…”
