India secured the Champions Trophy 2025 title by defeating New Zealand in the final with four wickets on Sunday. India remained undefeated throughout the tournament, with captain Rohit Sharma’s exceptional performance in the final being crucial. This victory further cemented India’s status as a leading white-ball cricket team, marking their third ICC final appearance in the last two years.
Videos capturing the Indian cricket team’s trophy celebrations have gone viral. One video shows fast bowler Mohammed Shami moving away from the stage as players began spraying champagne. Shami, who claimed 9 wickets in the tournament, rejoined the team shortly after for photographs.
Many fans have speculated that Shami’s brief departure was due to his religious beliefs.
Some fans recalled a similar event during Australia’s Ashes series victory celebrations in 2021-22 against England. Australian captain Pat Cummins, noticing Usman Khawaja’s inability to participate in the champagne celebrations, stopped the players and asked Khawaja to join them without the champagne.
Shami was among five Indian players selected for the Champions Trophy 2025 Team of the Tournament.
Alongside Shami, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Varun Chakravarthy were also included in the team. Shami took 9 wickets, including a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in the opening match.
He was India’s joint highest wicket-taker in the Champions Trophy, sharing the title with Chakravarthy.
Virat Kohli had a memorable tournament, delivering multiple match-winning innings and finishing with 218 runs in 5 matches.
