Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman is anticipated to make a comeback to competitive cricket after a period of rest. This rest follows a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection administered on Wednesday, March 12th.
The left-arm pace bowler gained significant attention during the player transfers for the Dhaka Premier League, a prominent domestic tournament, especially after initially going unsold.
PRP treatment involves injecting a concentrated dose of a patient’s platelets into an area of injury to promote healing and reduce inflammation. This method aims to accelerate tissue repair and alleviate pain.
According to a source from the BCB medical unit, Mustafizur received a PRP injection and will now require rest before resuming play.
The source clarified that Mustafizur is not experiencing a new injury. However, his previously operated left shoulder occasionally causes discomfort, which he manages while playing.
It was explained that PRP injections are typically used to encourage healing and lessen pain through tissue regeneration. Recovery from such an injection usually takes about 7 to 10 days for a player to fully recover.
Mustafizur is expected to return to competitive cricket through the ongoing Dhaka Premier League after Eid-Ul-Fitr. There is also speculation about his potential participation in the Indian Premier League, although no developments have occurred in that direction yet. He might consider playing for Prime Bank Cricket Club, where he played in the previous DPL season.
An official from Prime Bank mentioned that they are waiting to assess Mustafizur’s fitness and will consider signing him if he fits within their budget.
