New IPL Regulations for 2024 Season

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced stricter rules for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. These changes primarily concern the presence of family members in team areas and travel protocols for players.

One of the key changes is the restriction on family members accessing areas designated for players and match officials (PMOA), especially dressing rooms. This rule applies both before and during IPL matches and even on practice days. Only accredited staff members are permitted in the dressing room and on the field during practice sessions.

Family members and friends of players are welcome to watch practice from hospitality areas but must travel separately from the team. For additional support staff like throw-down specialists or net bowlers, teams need to submit a list to the BCCI for approval to receive non-match day accreditation.

Another significant regulation mandates that all players must use the team bus for travel, especially to practice sessions. This rule mirrors the strict protocols followed by Team India during international matches. Teams are allowed to use two buses if needed to accommodate everyone.

Further new rules cover practice sessions. Teams will be allocated two nets in the practice area and one side wicket on the main square for range hitting. Open net sessions are prohibited, and if a team finishes practice early, the other team cannot use the remaining time. Importantly, no practice is allowed on match days, and fitness tests cannot be conducted on the main square on match days.

Regarding match days, accredited staff must always carry their accreditation. Failure to do so will result in warnings and potential fines for repeated offenses. The BCCI has also requested teams to prevent players from hitting balls onto LED boards around the field. Players and support staff are also prohibited from sitting in front of these boards. Designated seating areas will be marked for substitutes bringing drinks and towels.

Players are required to wear the Orange and Purple Caps for at least the first two overs and during post-match presentations. Sleeveless jerseys and flip-flops are not allowed during post-match presentations, with warnings and financial penalties for non-compliance.

For match days, similar to the 2024 season, only 12 accredited support staff members, including the team doctor, will be permitted.

Finally, any changes to jersey numbers must be communicated to the authorities 24 hours in advance as per clothing and equipment guidelines.
