New Zealand is performing consistently well in the Champions Trophy, excelling in fielding, top-order batting, and strong finishes. All-rounder Glenn Phillips is confident that they also possess the bowling capabilities to adjust to Dubai’s pitch conditions.

The upcoming match against India is set to determine their semi-final opponent. While both teams have already qualified for the semi-finals, this game will decide who faces Australia. New Zealand is slated to play their semi-final in Lahore, while India will play in Dubai.

A stint in Dubai offers New Zealand an opportunity to acclimatize to the local conditions. Many players have prior experience at this venue, but the surfaces are expected to be worn due to recent tournaments.

Phillips believes New Zealand is well-equipped for the challenge. He stated, “Success here depends on execution. We have quality spin options with Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell, plus all-rounders like myself and Rachin Ravindra to provide overs if needed.”

“Our pace attack is also strong, featuring Matt Henry’s seam movement and the tall Kyle Jamieson and Will O’Rourke, who have been effective in Pakistan with their variable bounce. I believe we have a well-rounded team.”

New Zealand stands out as the only semi-finalist to have played in four different locations during the tournament. Their journey includes matches in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Dubai before heading to Lahore for the semi-final. Adaptability has been a key strength for New Zealand in major tournaments over the past decade.

Reflecting on their preparation, Phillips noted, “Each pitch in Pakistan has been significantly different, which is excellent preparation for Dubai. We’ve encountered spinning tracks, flat, fast surfaces, and varying boundary sizes.”

“Dubai presents a new challenge with potentially slower pitches, less grass, and slower outfields. We pride ourselves on our adaptability.”

Phillips emphasized the importance of aiming for the top spot in their group by defeating India, as it builds confidence heading into the semi-finals. He believes maintaining momentum is crucial in cricket tournaments and that winning every possible game is their goal.
