Former West Indies fast bowler Ottis Gibson has been appointed as the Assistant Coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in anticipation of the 2025 IPL season.

The experienced 55-year-old coach will be part of a strong coaching team led by Head Coach Chandrakant Pandit, and including mentor Dwayne Bravo, bowling coach Bharat Arun, and spin bowling coach Carl Crowe.

Gibson brings a wealth of coaching experience from his career after playing for the West Indies. He has previously served as a bowling coach for England in two separate periods and held head coach positions for the West Indies (2010-14) and South Africa (2017-19). Notably, he guided the West Indies to victory in the T20 World Cup in 2012. His coaching resume also includes stints with Bangladesh, Yorkshire County Cricket Club, and various T20 teams.

Following the departure of Gautam Gambhir to the Indian national team, KKR’s coaching setup is being restructured. Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate have also joined Gambhir in his move to the Indian team.

KKR, the current champions, are scheduled to commence their title defense on March 22nd against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at their home ground. The team will be captained by Ajinkya Rahane, with Venkatesh Iyer as vice-captain.
