Initially, Pakistan players were part of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Prominent Pakistani cricketers played in the league’s first season. However, following the Mumbai terror attacks, Pakistani players were barred from participating in the IPL. While some Pakistani individuals have served as mentors, no players from Pakistan have been featured in the IPL since. Now, veteran Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has announced his eligibility to play in the IPL starting next year.
Amir’s wife, Narjis, is a citizen of the UK, and Amir, a seasoned player with 36 Test matches, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is under his belt, is hoping to obtain a UK passport.
In a recent interview, Mohammad Amir stated, “By next year, I anticipate having the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if the opportunity arises, I would definitely take it.”
Ahmed Shehzad, a former teammate who was also part of the interview, commented that Amir would be a valuable addition to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team and could contribute to them winning their first IPL title.
Shehzad further added, “RCB needs a bowler of Amir’s caliber to address their bowling concerns. While they possess a strong batting lineup, their bowling has consistently been a weak point. If Amir joins RCB, they have a higher chance of winning the title.”
Mohammad Amir is known for several memorable performances against India. Notably, former Indian captain Virat Kohli once gifted him a bat.
Amir fondly remembers the incident, saying, “Virat gifted me his bat, and I was deeply touched by his gesture. I have always admired his batting, and he appreciates my bowling. I have played some good innings using the bat he gifted.”
