India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has acknowledged the team’s remarkable consistency in ICC tournaments, highlighting their exceptional quality. This recognition comes after India achieved an impressive record of 23 wins out of 24 matches in recent major tournaments, securing two championship titles.

Despite playing all five Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, India has faced varied and challenging schedules in previous tournaments, including the 2023 World Cup on home soil and the T20 World Cup victory last year. In the 2023 World Cup, India played across nine different venues, experiencing only one defeat in the final against Australia. Similarly, the T20 World Cup involved matches in diverse locations, including New York and multiple venues for the later stages.
Sharma described India’s 23 wins as a “great, great milestone,” emphasizing the team’s depth, mutual understanding, and enthusiasm. He noted the external pressures and speculations that often surround the team, particularly after losses. However, he praised the team’s ability to set aside external noise and concentrate on winning and enjoying their cricket, which he identified as a crucial aspect of their success over the past few years.
Focusing on the period of 2024-2025, India has maintained a flawless record, winning 13 out of 13 matches across formats. While MS Dhoni led India to victories in all major limited-overs ICC tournaments, including the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy, his teams did not achieve consecutive ICC tournament wins or remain undefeated across two tournaments.
Sharma lauded the current team’s achievement of winning two ICC trophies undefeated as “icing on the cake,” mentioning that such undefeated runs are rare. He credited the team’s effective use of conditions and emphasized their consistent mindset and game plan from the successful 2023 World Cup campaign, despite the final loss. He highlighted their focus on staying in the game until the very end.
Sharma also commended the team’s versatile lineup, filled with impactful all-rounders, where almost every player has made significant contributions throughout the tournament. He pointed out that contributions from players batting from No. 1 to 11 have been vital for their consistent success. He underscored that the challenging wickets in the tournament necessitated collective contributions, rather than reliance on individual performances.
Finally, Sharma acknowledged the inherent “hunger and passion” within the team, which he believes are intrinsic qualities driving their performance.
