Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma achieved a significant world record during the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Australia in Dubai on Tuesday. Rohit became the player with the most sixes in the history of ICC ODI tournaments, overtaking Chris Gayle’s previous record of 64 sixes. Rohit hit his 65th six in ICC tournaments off Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis, making him the leading six-hitter. Earlier, Rohit had already passed Gayle’s total of 331 sixes in ODI matches to become the second-highest six-hitter in that format, with Shahid Afridi of Pakistan still holding the top spot with 351 sixes.

Rohit Sharma mentioned that his team remained calm and collected while chasing a target of 265 runs against Australia. They successfully reached this target, securing their place in the Champions Trophy final for the third time in a row.

Virat Kohli was once again a key performer for India’s batting lineup, scoring 84 runs with five boundaries. Contributions from KL Rahul, who scored an unbeaten 42, and Hardik Pandya, who added a quick 28 runs with three sixes and a four, helped India achieve a four-wicket victory in the semi-final held at Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.

Rohit acknowledged that the game was tense until the very end, as Australia remained competitive even after Kohli’s dismissal. However, Pandya and Rahul ultimately guided India to victory.

‘Nothing is certain until the last ball is bowled. At the halfway point, we felt the score was manageable. The pitch wasn’t ideal for aggressive shots. We batted effectively, staying calm and focused during the chase,’ Rohit stated after the match.

The captain praised Kohli’s consistent performance and highlighted Pandya’s crucial consecutive sixes against Adam Zampa during a critical moment in the game.

‘Credit goes to everyone involved in building this team. Kohli has been performing consistently for years. During our batting innings, we maintained composure. Hardik’s shots towards the end were vital,’ he added.

Rohit also commented on the pitch, saying, ‘The pitch seemed better and played slightly better compared to the match against New Zealand. It’s about playing good cricket. We have many experienced players, which is what I wanted – to have six bowling options and sufficient batting depth.’
