Former Indian cricket team fast bowler Sreesanth has called on fans and experts to stop speculating about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement. Following some disappointing performances during the Test series against Australia, there was considerable discussion about their future. However, after India’s victory over Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal, Sreesanth expressed his desire to see the pair compete in the Olympics 2028 and secure a gold medal for the nation. With cricket set to feature in the Los Angeles Olympics, Sreesanth urged the BCCI to support their continued play, emphasizing their potential to win gold.
‘Everyone is talking about Virat and Rohit potentially retiring. I urge everyone to let them continue playing. We have a great opportunity to win the Olympics, and there’s nothing quite like seeing Olympian Virat and Olympian Rohit winning a gold medal for India,’ Sreesanth stated.
Team India is displaying remarkable form, brimming with confidence, energy, and dominance. Sreesanth believes that no team can defeat them in the Champions Trophy final.
The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, defeated reigning world champions Australia by four wickets in the first semifinal, marking their fourth consecutive win in the ICC tournament.
They are now waiting to face the winner of the match between New Zealand and South Africa in the final.
‘Regardless of the opponent in the final, India is poised to win,’ Sreesanth, a winner of both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, told PTI Video.
‘The team is radiating positive energy and playing exceptionally well. The way Virat Kohli is anchoring the chase, and Shreyas Iyer is stepping up – it’s truly impressive. We should remain optimistic.’ Sreesanth also highlighted the importance of staying grounded.
‘We need to maintain humility in our approach. As MS Dhoni, one of the best captains I’ve played under, used to say.’
‘Sourav Ganguly also echoed this sentiment. Dada always emphasized the importance of humility and trusting the process. This is precisely what the Indian team is doing… Gautam Gambhir is also doing a commendable job,’ he noted.
