Following India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory in Dubai, Congress leader Shama Mohamed has congratulated the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma. This comes shortly after she publicly criticised Rohit’s fitness and captaincy, remarks for which she received considerable backlash. India secured a four-wicket win against New Zealand in the final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, successfully chasing a target of 251.
Shama Mohamed acknowledged India’s win on social media, stating, “Congratulations to #TeamIndia for their outstanding performance in winning the #ChampionsTrophy2025! Hats off to Captain @ImRo45 who led from the front with a brilliant 76, setting the stage for victory. @ShreyasIyer15 and @klrahul played important innings, guiding India to success!”
Previously, Shama Mohamed had commented on Rohit Sharma’s fitness during the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final stage, suggesting he looked ‘fat for a sportsperson’ in a social media post that she later deleted. In another post, she had also called Rohit ‘the most unimpressive captain’.
However, in the final, Rohit played a crucial innings of 76, providing a strong start for India’s run chase. He addressed concerns about his fitness and potential retirement by aggressively taking on the New Zealand bowlers in the initial overs.
India, the top-ranked ODI team, remained undefeated throughout the Champions Trophy tournament held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
After the match, Rohit Sharma said, “I appreciate the support from everyone who came to the stadium. The crowd was amazing and made it feel like our home ground. This win is very satisfying. Our spinners have been excellent from the start, despite high expectations. We utilized that to our advantage. Our bowling was consistently strong. KL Rahul demonstrated great composure, handling pressure well and finishing the game. His shot selection under pressure allows other batsmen to play freely, like Hardik. Overall, the batting performance was special. Varun Chakravarthy brings a unique quality. On this kind of pitch, having someone like him is valuable. He joined later in the tournament but took crucial wickets, which benefited us. We are grateful for the fans’ support, it makes a significant difference.”
Virat Kohli commented, “It’s been an amazing tournament. We wanted to come back strong after a challenging tour of Australia. It’s wonderful to play with such talented young players who are leading India in the right direction.”
Kohli added, “When you leave, you want to leave the team in a better position. So many impactful innings were played by Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. The team is in capable hands.”
