Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer is overwhelmed with joy after India’s victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He admits to being almost speechless when trying to describe the feeling of winning such a prestigious ICC tournament. India secured their third Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand in the final, solidifying their place as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
In a video released by the Indian cricket team, Iyer described the victory as “outstanding” and confessed to “running out of words” to express his happiness. He stated his satisfaction with his contributions to the team’s success in every game, both with the bat and in the field, including crucial run-outs and catches. He emphasized the ineffable nature of the victory feeling.
Iyer was India’s leading scorer in the tournament, amassing 243 runs in five matches, including two consecutive half-centuries against Pakistan and New Zealand during the group stage. He also played a vital innings of 48 runs in the final, demonstrating his ability to handle spin bowling on challenging Dubai pitches.
Being the top run-scorer for the team is an incredible feeling for Iyer, although he feels he could have finished the final match. He acknowledged the desire of every player to see the team through to victory and expressed his overall happiness with the collective team effort that led to their success.
Iyer’s outstanding performance earned him a spot in the Champions Trophy’s Team of the Tournament, alongside teammates Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Varun Chakaravarthy. He concluded by stating that winning his first ICC trophy was a “brilliant feeling” and expressed gratitude for his fifth title in a year.
