Derbyshire County Cricket Club has announced the return of Wayne Madsen as their captain. The experienced batsman will take over from David Lloyd and lead the team in the upcoming County Championship season. Madsen previously held the captaincy from 2012 to 2016.
Mickey Arthur, Derbyshire’s Head of Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for Madsen’s reappointment, highlighting his leadership skills and popularity within the team. Arthur believes Madsen’s experience, including a previous promotion as captain, will be invaluable for the team in 2025.
Madsen himself conveyed his honor at being named captain once more. He acknowledged David Lloyd’s contribution and emphasized the team’s determination to achieve success and win matches for their supporters. Despite a challenging 2024 season for Derbyshire, Madsen was a standout performer, scoring over 1000 runs in the County Championship.
With a strong first-class record for Derbyshire, Wayne Madsen is set to bring his leadership and batting prowess back to the captaincy role.
